Aisha Buhari Dis­clos­es Why She Con­sid­ered Not Sup­port­ing Buhari For 2nd Term

Mrs. Aisha Buhari has revealed her rea­son for threat­en­ing her hus­band with a sit out from cam­paign­ing if he were to declare for a sec­ond term.

Accord­ing to Mrs. Buhari, she cred­it­ed her sense of jus­tice for this deci­sion as she said the Niger­ian peo­ple only deserved the very best and while she has con­fi­dence in her hus­band, she is more scep­ti­cal of the peo­ple around him.
She said this in a state­ment accept­ing an award from Van­guard News­pa­per as per­son of the year.
While she has not stat­ed whether she would be sup­port­ing her husband’s bid for a sec­ond term in office now that he has actu­al­ly indi­cat­ed inter­est, she has stat­ed that she still holds true to her crit­i­cisms from back then.
Some­time in 2016, Aisha Buhari had said that she would not be sup­port­ing a sec­ond term bid for her hus­band unless he made some changes in his cab­i­net and also changed some of the exist­ing poli­cies.
That has not hap­pened and it would be inter­est­ing to see how that affects Mrs. Buhari’s sup­port espe­cial­ly since she was respon­si­ble for a lot of the votes the Pres­i­dent received from the female demo­graph­ic.
Accept­ing the Van­guard award she said; “One of the rea­sons adduced for hon­our­ing me was the inter­view I grant­ed which some peo­ple saw as crit­i­cism to a gov­ern­ment that I am part of,” she was quot­ed as say­ing in the state­ment cir­cu­lat­ed by her media aide Suleiman Haruna. “I need to state that my posi­tion was a result of my sense of jus­tice and not con­fronta­tion or dis­re­spect. I was brought up to stand by the truth and this is how I have always been,”
She added “As we are all aware, Nige­ri­ans elect­ed this admin­is­tra­tion based on the trust and con­fi­dence they have on my hus­band.
“I, there­fore, feel that we are here to serve Nige­ria to the best of our abil­i­ty. Let me use this oppor­tu­ni­ty to state that I sup­port my hus­band in this call to ser­vice and will con­tin­ue to do so,”
