Ali Bon­go Recov­ery — Mil­i­tary Take Over Gabon Radio Sta­tion in Failed Coup Attempt (Video)

Mil­i­tary coup under­way as Army in Gabon take con­trol of the State radio, Libre­ville call the cre­ation of a coun­cil to restore democ­ra­cy adding that they ques­tion Pres­i­dent Bongo’s abil­i­ty to con­tin­ue. Bon­go has been out of the coun­try since Octo­ber and is recov­er­ing from ill­ness in Moroc­co.

Accord­ing to reports the Gabonese gov­ern­ment was able to repel coup attempt.

At 4.30am (0530 GMT) on Mon­day a man iden­ti­fy­ing him­self as Lt Kel­ly Ondo Obiang read out a mes­sage on state radio that was simul­ta­ne­ous­ly filmed for social media.

Obiang was flanked by two armed men, all in the uni­form and green berets of the pow­er­ful Repub­li­can Guard, which is usu­al­ly tasked with pro­tect­ing the pres­i­dent.
