Can­ni­bal woman believed to have eat­en up to 30 peo­ple with her hus­band in Rus­sia has been declared SANE

The can­ni­bal woman believed to have eat­en up to 30 peo­ple with her hus­band has been declared sane by a med­ical team.

The infa­mous Russ­ian Can­ni­bal cou­ple Natalia Bak­shee­va, 42, and Dmit­ry Bak­sheev, report­ed­ly con­fessed to killing up to 30 women.

The cou­ple were arrest­ed in Octo­ber 2017 as the main sus­pects for the mur­der of a woman in the city of Krasnodar in south-west­ern Rus­si­a’s Krasnodar Krai region.

Dur­ing a recent med­ical exam­i­na­tion of Natalia Bak­shee­va, med­ical pro­fes­sion­als of the Serb­sky Nation­al Med­ical Research Cen­tre for Psy­chi­a­try and Addic­tion found her to be sane of mind.


The can­ni­bal cou­ple were caught by pure chance, after a group of con­struc­tion work­ers found a mobile phone which con­tained pho­tos of Dmit­ry Bak­sheev with a sev­ered hand in his mouth.

Police traced the phone to the cou­ple and raid­ed their home in the grounds of a Russ­ian mil­i­tary acad­e­my, where they found the remains of the mur­dered woman.

Glass jars of pick­led remains as well as still uniden­ti­fied frozen body parts and ‘steamed human meat’ were also found.

Among the hor­rif­ic find­ings, police found remains of their last vic­tim, iden­ti­fied as Ele­na Vashru­she­va, 35, accord­ing to Russ­ian media, who also report that the cou­ple have been active can­ni­bals since 1999.


The cou­ple have been detained since and the inves­ti­ga­tion is ongo­ing.

The Russ­ian Inves­tiga­tive Com­mit­tee con­tin­ues to inves­ti­gate the con­fes­sion of Natalia that she killed and ate at least 30 women along with her hus­band.

The cou­ple have report­ed­ly since retract­ed this con­fes­sion, say­ing they only killed wait­ress Ele­na.

Some of the vic­tims were alleged­ly lured from dat­ing sites and were report­ed miss­ing after arrang­ing dates with men on the site.

How­ev­er Russ­ian author­i­ties say there is no con­fir­ma­tion yet of the mass mur­ders and the inves­ti­ga­tion remains open.
