The immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia State, late Professor Francis Otunta, was on Friday, committed to the mother earth at his country home, Anangwu Nkpoghoro in Afikpo North Local Government area of Ebonyi State
The late Otunta, until his death in a fatal motor accident on March 30, 2021, was one of the Nigerian finest professors of Mathematics
However, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, who attended the final burial rites of the late Vice-Chancellor of Micheal Okpara University, extolled the sterling qualities of the deceased while alive, said he was saddened that the news on the passage of Professor Otunta came as a surprise to the Government and the people of Abia state.
The Abia Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, encouraged the bereaved family to take heart over the loss of their beloved son, who contributed immensely to the development of the education sector in Abia and Nigeria at large
Responding on behalf of the family, Dr. (Mrs) Nnenna Otunta appreciated the government and the people of Abia state
for identifying with them during this period of mourning.
