Students in the South-East may miss West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Monday’s sitting due to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) order.

The organization ordered the people in the region to stay away from schools, markets, banks and other public places every Monday

The directive was issued as part of the pressure against the federal government over Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu.

Those who default are sometimes attacked. There have been cases of destruction of vehicles, shops and other property.

The Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders, (COSEYL) said the actions by IPOB are detrimental to the well-being of innocent civilians

A statement by the President, Goodluck Ibem, and Secretary, Kanice Igwe, lamented the negative impacts of the weekly lockdown on social and economic activities.

It said WAEC candidates were at risk of disruptions to their papers, a situation that would cause incomplete results.

Our secondary school students sitting for WAEC examinations will be writing English Language on September 13 and we cannot afford to have them miss the paper.

Asking these students to sit-at-home on Monday when others will be writing the same examination is the worst disservice anyone can do to our students”, COSEYL noted.

The body regretted that many who depend on daily income are at the receiving end of the IPOB order and called for its total cancelation
