“On behalf of the government, I congratulate the four of you,” the governor said. “This journey hasn’t been an easy one, and I know many of you have worked hard to reach this milestone. Your recognition is not for personal gain but rather a duty to serve and contribute to the safety and welfare of your communities.”

Governor Fubara also emphasized that while the government retains the authority to withdraw recognition from any ruler who fails in their duties, he expressed his desire to avoid such measures. He cautioned the new rulers against misusing their elevated status, urging them to work with the government to achieve its objectives and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

“I don’t want you to see this elevation as an opportunity to create problems in your communities,” he continued. “We have the power to withdraw recognition, but I do not intend to use it. Instead, I encourage you to be partners in governance, ensuring our mutual success. Your integrity and commitment to the welfare of your people will be crucial in this regard.”

In his opening remarks, the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Engr. Charles Amadi, highlighted that the newly recognized traditional rulers include two Royal Majesties and two Royal Highnesses. He commended Governor Fubara for his efforts to enhance the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, further strengthening the state’s cultural and administrative framework.
