The ongoing confrontation between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio has drawn widespread attention, with former Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, offering his perspective on the matter.
Speaking on Arise News TV, Ogunlewe suggested that Senator Natasha’s physical attractiveness might be influencing her political career, particularly in her interactions with male colleagues. He acknowledged the growing confidence and assertiveness of female senators in legislative debates but argued that Natasha’s striking beauty could be a double-edged sword in the male-dominated political arena.
“The female senators did not look at themselves as if they were inferior to men. They were even up to the task. If you even mention that Ita-Giwa is a woman, the response you are going to get will make you ashamed of yourself because they will stand up to you,” Ogunlewe said.
However, he added, “But the beauty of Senator Natasha is a problem to her. You know, men—when somebody who is pretty passes by you, your attitude will change. You can smile, you can wink, but you may not talk to her. But her beauty is a problem, there’s no doubt about that.”
Ogunlewe further explained, “To men, when she’s passing, there’s no way a man will not look at that woman. It is a natural thing for a man to look at beautiful women. How can you be a man, and a beautiful woman is passing, and you close your eyes?”
This commentary comes in the wake of Senator Natasha’s recent suspension by the Senate over allegations of “gross misconduct.” The conflict began when Natasha refused to comply with a new seating arrangement, citing a lack of prior notification. This led to a heated exchange with Senate President Akpabio, who subsequently ordered her suspension for disobeying Senate rules.
