Janet Simon wins Catholic Youth Organization cooking competition Third edition.

In the spirit to encourage entrepreneurship and talent development within the Catholic Church, the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON), again for the third time successfully organized the third edition of the Abuja CYON cooking competition. A Total of thirty-five contestants were screened and the chief host, Rev. Father John Sixtus Okonkwo while giving his speech, saw the need for the youths to be attended to. The youths are the majority of the church and the future leaders of tomorrow. The Church sees the youths as a strong arm. He encouraged parents and faithfuls to support their children in any capacity.

The first edition started when the current executive came on board and they made it a point of duty to empower youths through culinary skills. The first edition was in 2019 while the second edition was in 2021 with winners in life camp and lugbe respectively.

This year’s edition was fun filled as we had sponsors from viju, fanmilk, Nigerian breweries and lacasera. Fans and participants were thrilled with gifts from our sponsors. Next edition promises to be bigger as fans are looking forward to it to come and showcase their talents in the kitchen.

The winner, Janet Simon won the sum of one hundred thousand naira , the first runner up, Augustin Okorie, won fifty thousand naira while the second runner up, Njoku Ann got thirty thousand naira. Mr. Tunji, the CYON president thanked the sponsors and supporters and encouraged the youths to be law abiding and be good ambassadors of the church.

The winner, Janet Simon, thanked the organizers for a well organized event and encouraged others to participate as she didn’t expect to win. In her words, it was the first free and fair competition that she had participated in and won and she was grateful.
