Two persons were feared dead and one injured when bank robbers attacked a bullion van in Bolorunduro, Ondo East Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the robbers, made up of over eight persons, looted an unspecified amount of cash. The robbery occurred at about 5: 30 pm.

According to an eyewitness, the robbers who were in two vehicles, including a Lexus, attacked the cash van at Elemoso village along Akure/Ondo expressway.

It was reported that the cash van was leaving Ondo town and heading to Akure, the state capital, when it was attacked by the robbers.

Journalists learnt that the driver and other police officers escorting the cash van fled in different directions after the robbers displayed a sophisticated weapon.

The cash van was reportedly shot several times before the robbers were able to enter it, while two police escort vehicles were damaged.

The villagers fled to neighboring villages after the robbers fired sporadically.

They reportedly operated unhindered for more than twenty minutes. Motorists on the road abandoned their vehicles and fled into the bush, leaving many of them with injuries.

According to reports, some villages informed the Amotekun operatives in Bolorunduro of the robbery, after which they went to the scene, only to discover that the robbers had fled with the loot.

Amotekun state commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the robbery. Adeleye said three people were shot dead during the robbery. According to him, his staff transported one person who was injured to the hospital.

Robbers Attacked A Bullion Van in Ondo State

State police image officer Tee Leo Ikoro, who confirmed the robbery, said there were no casualties during the robbery. Ikoro said police detectives, local hunters, and vigilante members combed the forest to apprehend the robbers. He assured that the thieves would come out of hiding as soon as possible.

This is the third armored vehicle robbery on this axis in the last five years.
