Tourism Across the Niger: Day 2
“Tourism Across the Niger” is an initiative designed to promote tourism and cultural heritage across Nigeria.
Spearheaded by Ambassador Phil Roberts and the Tourism Volunteers Network (TVN), this project involves a series of trekking adventures through various states, showcasing the nation’s scenic beauty, rich culture, and historical landmarks.
The initiative aims to draw local and international tourists, fostering a deeper appreciation for Nigeria’s diverse attractions. This ambitious project has garnered massive support and has been officially endorsed by the Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John.
In a chat with Toktok9ja Exclusive, the project spokesman said the journey so far has been resourceful and educative despite being challenging.
As the journey continued into day two, our team embarked on an eventful trek through the communities, we explored the rich cultural tapestry and developmental strides of Nigeria.
We began our journey from Lugbe, passing through prominent sites such as Glory Dome, Centenary City, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the University of Abuja. Our trek brought us to Gwagwalada, where we were honored to visit the Chief’s Palace.
Chief Saibu Ndako Ahmed, along with a few members of his council of elders, graciously received us. During our visit, we took the opportunity to engage with the young wives of Gwagwalada, sensitizing them on the importance of tourism, patriotism, and the Nigeria Police Campaign against cultism and other societal vices.
As we continued our journey, a young paint artist gifted us an inspiring artwork to support our cause. This gesture of support was greatly appreciated by the team. Moving towards the boundary of Gwagwalada and Kwali, we discovered a plant where machines are manufactured to aid in the processing of raw food such as maize.
Our next stop was Dabi in the Kwali Area Council. Here, we were joyfully received by the leadership and pupils of the L.E.A Primary School, further reinforcing the community’s enthusiasm for our initiative.
We then visited the site designated for nursery resuscitation, flora, and ornaments (Zoo and Plants). It was disheartening to learn that all the animals had been evacuated over a decade ago to the National Park Service due to the local inhabitants’ hunting habits. This highlighted a critical area where conservation efforts are needed.
Our journey proceeded to Sheda Market II in Kwali, a bustling medium-scale market where cassava is processed for various food products. This market visit underscored the importance of local agricultural practices and their role in the community’s economy.
Our final stop for the day was the Chemistry Advanced Research Center in Kwali, where we explored the advancements in research and development within the region.
Our current location is Kwali, and the journey continues from here into the third day. As we forge ahead, we remain committed to promoting Nigeria’s tourism potential, fostering community engagement, and highlighting the nation’s cultural and natural heritage.
