A 27- year- old suspected Yahoo boy identified as Obeta John was on Tuesday, November 29, arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly beating his girlfriend known as Idowu Buhari, an HND1 student of Mass Communication of Gateway Polytechnic Saapade, to death for refusing to release the money his foreign client paid into her account.

In a statement released by the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspect, said John Obeta was picked up following a distress call received at Ode- Remo divisional headquarters, that one Obeta John, who resides at No 3, Mojubade compound, Eridu Ishara, locked his undergraduate girlfriend inside his apartment and beat her seriously until she died.

It was gathered that the suspect was hitting her head against the wall during the beating demanding her release of the funds in her bank account sent by his client. The undergraduate reportedly refused which led to her death before police arrived at the scene.

‘ ‘ Upon the distress call, the DPO Ode- Remo division, CSP Fasogbon Olayemi quickly led his men to the scene where they met the victim in the pool of her blood after forcing the door open.

The victim was quickly rushed to State Hospital Ishara, but was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty. ‘ ‘ the statement by the police PPRO read in part.

The police spokesman also said the suspect who is an indigen of Enugu State was promptly arrested and taken into custody and interrogated where he confessed to the crib that he did beat her to death for not releasing the money he told his client to pay into her account.

“On interrogation, the suspect, Obara John informed the police that he is an internet fraudster and that a certain amount of money from one of his clients was paid into the account of his deceased girlfriend which she refuser to relinquish to him.

He stated further that it was the argument over the said money that led to a scuffle between then which eventually led to her death.
