Three brides in Uganda revealed that they are happy with their husband’s decision to marry them all at once.
50-year-old Mohammed Ssemanda of Entebbe said that he married all the women at the same time because he simply could not afford three separate wedding ceremonies.
The triple marriage unfolded on Wednesday afternoon.
A large crowd gathered to be part of the record-breaking ceremony.
Officials confirmed that this was the first time that a triple wedding took place in the country.
The smiling brides were identified as 48-year-old Salmat Naluwugge, 27-year-old Jameo Nakayiza, and 24-year-old Mastulah Namwanje.
Namwanje and Nakayiza are sisters.
The brides revealed that they are not jealous of one another and live in peace.
Ssemanda told those who joined the marriage ceremony that although he is not a wealthy man, he did purchase a separate home for each of the women.
The brides were overjoyed by the triple wedding ceremony, saying that this was a sign their new husband will never pick a favorite wife.
When asked why they decided to marry Ssemanda, they said because he is not a woman beater.
Some people mocked the three brides, saying that the 50-year-old man will use his youngest wife for sex while the others will have to earn money for the family and help run the household.
