The officers were allegedly manhandled and almost mobbed by the suspect, Wale Ogunsanmi, who mobilised a crowd against them and they were assaulted.
The incident happened at Muyibat Oyefusi Crescent, Phase 1, Omole Estate, Lagos, where Mr. Ogunsanmi resided.
It was scooped that the officers from Area F Command went to the house in the estate to arrest the suspect following a petition against him by an undisclosed petitioner. They got there and ordered him to follow them to the Police Command for interrogation. But Mr. Ogunsanmi told them that he had no issue with anyone and was not going anywhere.
The police alleged that he assaulted the female police officers when they attempted to compel him to follow them; he resisted, created a scene, allegedly attacked the officers and the crowd he had attracted gathered around the officers probably to mob them before they managed to escape.
The officers returned to the Command, reported what happened to them and the police mobilized, arrested Ogunsanmi and detained him at the Command.
He was later charged before the Ikeja Magistrates court for assault and assembling crowd against the female police officers. He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Benson Emuerhi did not oppose his bail. Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. O. Sule-Amzat granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect the bail condition. The matter was adjourned till 12 July, 2018.
