APC Pardons Salihu Tanko Yakassai, Receives Him Back to the Party After Plea From Party Chairman Ganduja.
In a surprising turn of events, the All Progressive Congress (APC) has welcomed back Salihu Tanko Yakassai, the former aide to ex-governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who now serves as the Party Chairman.
This reconciliation follows a heartfelt plea from Dr Ganduje himself.
Salihu Tanko Yakasai, previously known for his stint as a governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Kano, revealed that the invitation to return to the APC came directly from Dr. Ganduje.
In a post on X, Yakasai shared that Ganduje had urged him to contribute to “consolidating the gains” of the APC, a request that he readily accepted.
What makes this reunion all the more noteworthy is the fact that Yakasai had previously distanced himself from the APC.
He has now withdrawn his membership from the PRP, signaling his readiness to rejoin the APC, a party he was once closely associated with during his tenure as an aide to Ganduje when he served as the governor of Kano state.
The backstory of Yakasai’s departure from the APC adds depth to this reunion. In February 2021, Yakasai found himself at odds with the APC leadership when he publicly criticized former President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership style. In a tweet, he voiced his concerns, stating, “Clearly, we as [the] APC government, at all levels, have failed Nigerians in the number 1 duty we were elected to do, which is to secure lives & properties.” He called for decisive action against terrorists or the resignation of those responsible for security.

This outspoken criticism led to Yakasai’s detainment by the Department of State Services (DSS), a move that garnered attention and controversy. However, he was later released, allowing him to reenter the political arena.
Only time will tell what impact Yakasai’s return will have on the APC and the broader political landscape in Nigeria.
