A 2021 Batch A member of the National Youth Service Corps, Chidinma Paschaline Odume, from Akwa Ibom State, who was on trial for the murder of one Akwaowo Japheth 26 has been released by the State High Court in Uyo, the state capital.

According to reports, it was reported that Ms. Odume was released from prison on Thursday, January 13, 2022, by Justice Bassey Nkanang after it was determined that she had acted in self-defense during the incident.

The investigation was carried out by the police.

Recall that Ms. Odume was accused of murdering Akwaowo in cold blood at the deceased’s Abak Road apartment in Uyo during an incident between them.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, revealed that the preliminary investigations revealed that the dead (Akwaowo) escorted the accused (Ms. Odume) to his house, and while in the house, Akwaowo Japhet, in a bid to rap£ her, picked up a knife and attempted to kill her.

According to the investigation carried out, it was reported that Odume said that the accused took away his knife and used it against him, resulting in his death.

According to reports carried out, the deceased’s family failed to appear in court at least once, despite repeated requests for them to attend the trial of their son, who had passed away.

According to newsmen, it was also discovered by the authority that the deceased had multiple pending rap£ cases against him.

According to Justice Nkanang, he noted that the case had been dismissed and the accused person had been discharged as a result of the Nolle Prosequi (a formal notice of discontinuation of the prosecution without a conviction) entered by the Attorney General of the State on the 10th of January, 2022.

The court also noted that the action was taken following Section 211 (1) (c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Section 71 of the Criminal Code Procedure Law of the State of Akwa Ibom.

Recall, it was reported that Chidinma Oduma Pascaline, a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was detained by the police in Akwa Ibom State for reportedly killing a guy who was believed to be her boyfriend.
