FG Initiates Distribution of Free Solar Systems to Communities in Response to Fuel Subsidy Removal.
In an effort to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians due to the removal of fuel subsidies, the federal government has commenced the distribution of complimentary solar home systems to various communities across the nation.
Toktok9ja gathered that the federal government of Nigeria is making all efforts to alleviate the sufferings of Nigeria as a result of the fuel subsidy removal.
The Rural Electrification Agency’s Managing Director, Ahmad Salihijo, recently conducted an inspection visit to Makoko, Lagos, during which he revealed that the government had instructed the agency to expand the deployment of free solar systems to residences, educational institutions, and medical facilities nationwide.
Salihijo stated that this initiative falls under the Ministry of Power’s Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy program.
“Our visit to this area is part of our project, the Poverty Reduction and Growth and Strategy Program, as approved by the Federal Government and overseen by the Ministry of Power,” he explained.
“Considering the removal of fuel subsidies, we have evaluated that solar systems would be more beneficial in areas such as this, where access to reliable power supply is lacking. Our goal is to distribute decentralized solar systems, particularly 150-watt units, to critical locations in this community, including small schools, households, and hospitals. These systems will provide them with lighting, power for fans, and televisions,” he elaborated.
So far, a total of 30 solar systems have been deployed in the Makoko community, and Salihijo expressed satisfaction with the positive feedback received from beneficiaries.
“We are pleased with the positive feedback we have received thus far, as the beneficiaries are already enjoying the benefits of these systems. This program will continue, as additional funding will be allocated for the deployment of more solar systems,” he assured.
Salihijo also mentioned that the agency has extended its reach to Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State and Osogbo in Osun State, where solar systems have been installed in markets and agricultural centers.
“While a fee was charged for the systems deployed in markets and agricultural plantations in Ijebu and Osogbo, the ones provided to homes, hospitals, and schools are absolutely free of charge,” he emphasized.
Expressing gratitude to the Federal Government, Chief Jeje Albert, the traditional leader of Makoko Community, expressed his satisfaction with the commendable project and urged the government to deploy more solar systems to the community to ensure widespread benefit.
