Finally Sheikh Gumi Breaks Silence Over Deborah’s Murder – Here What the Cleric Said.
The gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, a Christian student of Shehu Shagari college of education, Sokoto, is not just condemned by Christians across the country, but Muslim scholars.
Surprisingly, controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi faulted the killing of Deborah over alleged blasphemy, as he noted that the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (SAW), did not at anytime kill anyone despite the fact that he was insulted severally.
Gumi made this comment while conducting a religious teaching class in his Kaduna Juma’ at mosque, according to reports.
Speaking in a video clip obtained and translated by Premium Times Nigeria, Gumi said: ” Anyone who kills a non- Muslim who they have agreed to live peacefully with, will not smell the fragrance of Paradise for 40 years.
” If we think by killing Deborah, people who are not of the same faith with us will stop insulting our prophet, then we are in delusion. “
Muslim Group Shares Sheikh Gumi’s Views
A Muslim group identified as Ex- Muslims of Nigeria on Friday condemned the killing of Deborah Samuel.
The group, which reacted to the lynching of Deborah shared a similar view to that of Sheikh Gumi as it noted that blasphemy is an ancient treasonable felony in Islam, but the law is no longer relevant today.
