Herdsmen Crisis: Abdulsalami Issues Fresh Warning To State Governors In The Country.

An Ex-military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has implored state governors to watch what they say so as not to induce communal clashes in Nigeria.

Speaking on a TV show’, he implored governors to adopt dialogue and take full responsibility for protecting lives and properties.

Abdulsalami, who is the Chairman of the National Peace Committee, regretted that Nigerians have not comprehended past errors of inter-tribal wars.

He explained, ” The governors have found themselves in a hard situation. It is their responsibility to protect their states regardless of who and who is in their states. Ethnic conflict is rearing itself all over the district. You could see where the herders are being stalked from some of the parts of the Southern states and their cattle are being slain. This heightened tension in the nation.

” Some people are also leaving from one part of the nation back to their states where they believe safer. God forbid this is taking us back to 1960 where we had a problem that arose in the civil war. That is why I and the peace committee are calling for alarm so that we do not go back to that path. “

On solution to suppress tension in the nation, Abdulsalami said, ” They must make certain there are law and order in their states and they should scrutinize their utterances because what they admit, people will take it as a decree.

” They as governors should be conscious of what they say; they should not say anything that will be misread that they are battling people who are not of their state ancestry.

” Having asserted that, there must be a dialogue between the people who they think are committing crimes in their regions. Certainly, if some people perpetrate crimes, they should be arrested and arraigned. It is their responsibility to protect the lives and properties of all Nigerians dwelling in their states. “
