How Brazilian woman wheeled her dead Uncle to the bank to sign for a loan.
A woman from Brazil found herself in hot water after attempting to secure a bank loan using the signature of her deceased 68-year-old uncle.
According to reports, she wheeled her late relative, who had been dead for hours, into the bank in a wheelchair. The incident happened in a Rio suburb, as reported by Reuters.
Identified as Erika Vieira Nunes, the woman brought the man to the teller’s desk, claiming he was her uncle and wished to borrow 17,000 reais (approximately Rs 2.71 lakh). The man remained unresponsive despite her efforts to move his hand and prompt a signature.
Caught on security footage, Nunes was heard urging her ‘uncle’ to sign, even suggesting she could sign on his behalf due to his purported condition. However, bank staff grew suspicious when the man’s head kept dropping back when Nunes released it.
According to reports, the bank staff ccalled the police, resulting in Nunes’ arrest on fraud charges. Further investigation revealed that the man had died before the bank visit, contrary to Nunes’ claims that he passed away at the bank.
The investigation now extends to uncovering Nunes’ relationship with the deceased and any potential involvement of other relatives in the suspected bank fraud. The deceased’s body was taken to the morgue for examination, while the legal proceedings against Nunes continued.
