Katsina Residents Upset by Alleged Blasphemy on Social Media Burns Down House and Properties.
In Katsina State capital, tension is gripping the community after a controversial Facebook post by a resident, Mani Abubakar.
The post, allegedly containing derogatory comments about Islam, has led to the destruction of Abubakar’s house and car.
Late on Tuesday night, a furious mob descended upon Abubakar’s residence in Babaruga, venting their anger over the perceived blasphemy in his Facebook post. The post, written in Hausa, reportedly questioned the origin of the Quran and criticized certain aspects of Islam. Abubakar managed to escape the violence, and his current whereabouts are unknown.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Katsina has swiftly responded to the crisis. Venerable Muyiwa Segun, the Vice Chairman of CAN in Katsina, condemned any form of violence or disrespect towards other religions. He emphasized the importance of mutual respect, stating, “Everyone should respect the other’s religion. Christians don’t have any business abusing other people’s religion. That is not how to do evangelism.”
Venerable Muyiwa Segun revealed that CAN is collaborating with local authorities and security officials to address the situation. Additionally, plans are underway for a meeting with the Emir of Katsina to ensure Abubakar’s safety when he reappears.
The Christian leaders in the state are urging for calm and understanding, emphasizing the need to uphold religious tolerance in the community.
