Ondo Police Officer’s Son Who Beheaded Younger Brother Dies After Mob Attack.
A 26-year-old man, identified as Daniel, has died after allegedly beheading his 15-year-old brother, Emmanuel, in a shocking act of fratricide that has left the Odigbo community in Ondo State reeling.
The suspect, who was severely beaten by an angry mob after the crime, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, compounding the tragedy for their family—particularly their father, a respected police officer in the area.
The horrifying incident unfolded on Monday evening near Onigbara River in Odigbo Local Government Area. According to eyewitnesses, Daniel lured his younger brother to the secluded riverbank under unclear circumstances before brutally decapitating him.

A community resident, Roland Akinkunmi, recounted the chilling moment the crime was uncovered:
“I was around the palace when I heard people shouting from the Origbara River axis. When I rushed to the scene, I saw Daniel holding a human head. At first, I didn’t even realize it was his brother’s because I was in complete shock. How could someone do this to his own blood?”
The alarm was reportedly raised by a passerby who spotted Daniel attempting to conceal the severed head in a bag. The witness’s screams drew other villagers, who swiftly apprehended the suspect before he could flee.
Filled with rage, locals descended on Daniel, beating him mercilessly. He was later rescued by police officers but had already sustained life-threatening injuries.

A source within the community, who spoke anonymously, confirmed:
“He was arrested immediately after the crime and beaten to a pulp by the mob. The police managed to save him and took him to the hospital, but the injuries were too severe. He couldn’t recover and eventually died.”
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, officially confirmed Daniel’s death in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“Yes, the suspect has died in the hospital,” Ayanlade stated. “However, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered an immediate investigation into the mob attack. Anyone found culpable in the extrajudicial violence will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.”
The two brothers were sons of a well-known and highly regarded police officer in the community, deepening the sense of disbelief among residents.

“Their father is a respected officer here, and this is just unthinkable,” said another distraught local. “We’ve never seen anything like this before. What could drive a brother to kill his own sibling in such a horrific way?”
Some community members speculated that the killing might have been ritualistic, citing long-standing beliefs that those who commit such acts for money rituals are quickly exposed in the town.
“In this community, if anyone sheds human blood for rituals or any evil purpose, they don’t go unpunished—they are exposed instantly,” one resident asserted.
Others recalled that the brothers had a history of quarrels, though none foresaw such a violent escalation.
“They had their usual sibling fights, but nothing that suggested this level of hatred,” a neighbor disclosed.
The double tragedy has left the agrarian community in mourning, with many struggling to comprehend how a family dispute—if that was indeed the motive—could spiral into such brutality.
