Plateau Crisis: Solomon Dalung Reacts as Fulani Group Issues 3 Conditions for Peace.
Following the brutal killing of over 100 residents in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas of Plateau State within a week, Governor Caleb Mutfwang convened an emergency stakeholders’ meeting to chart a path toward restoring peace in the troubled region.
The meeting, held in Jos, brought together prominent Plateau leaders, including former governors, serving and past senators, House of Representatives members, ex-ministers, traditional rulers, and religious leaders from both the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

However, the peace efforts took a controversial turn when a Fulani group, the Coalition of Fulani Registered Organizations (COFRO), Plateau State Chapter, outlined three conditions for peace in the state. The demands included:
- The unconditional release of all detained Fulani individuals.
- Clarification on the whereabouts of missing Fulani members allegedly affected by security operations.
- Guarantees that local communities would no longer harm their cattle.
COFRO’s chairman, Garba Abdullahi Muhammad, reportedly stated during a press briefing in Kaduna that the lack of justice for Fulani herdsmen and their families had worsened the crisis.

The group’s conditions were met with fierce criticism from various quarters. Comrade Paul Joshua Dekete, National President of the Youth Wing of the Conference of Autochthonous Ethnic Communities Development Association (CONECDA), accused COFRO of indirectly admitting involvement in the violence. He called for the arrest of the group’s leaders for further investigation.
Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, dismissed COFRO as a “faceless” group and questioned its motives. He expressed bewilderment over why the group chose Kaduna—not Plateau—for its press conference, suggesting ulterior motives.
“Kaduna Declaration or Kaduna Distraction?” Dalung remarked. “If they’re truly from Plateau, why hold this gathering in Kaduna? Why are people who claim to be victims setting pre-conditions for peace? This isn’t negotiation—it’s extortion veiled in ethnic entitlement.”
