So Painful! Adorable Couple Killed One Week to Their Wedding in Anambra State.
The victims, Gloria Ifeoma Mba and Ekemezie Ifechukwu Martin were killed on Tuesday night at Arondizuogu in the state’s Ideato North Local Government Area. Their wedding was scheduled for January 18.
The incident also claimed the life of the groom’s brother who was driving.
Residents in the region were alarmed by the incident and urged the authorities to stop what they described as an increase in criminal activities in the state.
A nearby resident who spoke to journalists under the condition of anonymity said that the brutal killing of the victims called for detailed investigations.
To prevent a repeat, he urged the government to send extra security personnel to the area.
He said, “This has been the situation in Arondizuogu for some time now. A young man who was going home for his marriage was killed in his village yesterday night with his fiancee and the brother who was conveying them in his Keke. This happened at Ndiejezie Izuogu in Ideato LGA of Imo State.
“We complained of this reckless kidnapping, killings, and burning of vehicles in Arondizuogu last year but the PPRO assured us that something was already being done about it.
“But since then, the killings and kidnappings have been an everyday thing. The people of Arondizuogu did not come back for Christmas and New year. The few that came could not move around in their cars.
“As we speak, there was a mass exodus of people from Arondizuogu this morning after this incident last night.
“They specialised in stealing flashy cards and killing the owners if he refuses or runs. At times, cars are burnt in the process. We are no longer safe in Arondizuogu. Students are afraid of going to school, our mothers no longer go to market for fear of the unknown. Please help us before we are finished.”
“We need police and army part in Arondizuogu-Okigwe road 24/7.
The spokesperson for the police in the state Michael Abattam confined the incident when contacted by our correspondent.
No fewer than four people including a pregnant woman were killed on Tuesday in Eziani, a community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria’s South-East during an invasion by gunmen.
This was confirmed by a resident of the community who claimed that the attack started around 1 am.
It was also learnt that the gunmen shot sporadically when they stormed the community killing the four victims.
Tochulwu Ilenga, the police spokesperson in Anambra State confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday.
The bodies of the victims have been recovered according to Me Ikebga a deputy superintendent of police.
According to the police spokesperson, the victims include three men and one woman.
He did not however confirm if the female victim was pregnant.
“Preliminary information reveals that the criminals armed with AK-47 riffles started shooting indiscriminately and unprovoked, unfortunately, bullets hit four unarmed civilians,” Mr Ikebga said.
He said the remains of the victims have been deposited in a morgue.
