Trapped Together: The Hungry Leopard That Refused to Attack the Innocent Dog
Wild Animals Are Very Sensitive to Their Freedom
This incident happened in the Kombaru Sanctuary in Karnataka, India.
A leopard was chasing a dog when the dog entered a bathroom through a window. The bathroom was locked from the outside. The leopard followed the dog inside, and both of them got trapped in the toilet. When the dog saw the leopard, it panicked and sat silently in a corner, not even daring to bark.
Although the leopard was hungry and had been chasing the dog, it didn’t attack. The leopard could have easily jumped on the dog for a meal, but instead, the two animals stayed together in different corners for almost twelve hours. During this time, the leopard remained calm.
The forest department focused on rescuing the leopard and captured it using a tranquilizer dart.
Now, the question arises: Why didn’t the hungry leopard attack the dog when it had the perfect opportunity? Wildlife researchers have an answer. According to them, wild animals are very sensitive to their freedom. As soon as they realize their freedom has been taken away, they can feel deep pain, to the point of forgetting their hunger. Their natural motivation to eat begins to fade.
