Woman Bitten 40 Times While Saving an Infant from Pit Bull Attack Receives Car and Furnished Apartment.
A babysitter who used her own body to protect an eight-month-old infant from a violent dog attack is being called a true hero. Now, after a painful recovery, her bravery is being rewarded in an extraordinary way.
Felicia Hambrick was looking after her friend’s three young children when the family’s pit bull suddenly turned on her. The dog knocked Felicia to the ground while she was holding the baby girl. In that moment of terror, Felicia made a split-second choice: she curled her body around the child, taking the full force of the attack herself.

A neighbor heard her desperate screams and rushed to help. When the ordeal was over, the baby was completely unharmed, saved by Felicia’s protective embrace. Felicia, however, had been bitten approximately forty times on her neck, legs, arms, and stomach.
The injuries were severe. She needed 94 surgical staples and spent five days in the hospital. The pain was overwhelming. “I remember it hurting so bad that I was literally screaming, ‘I just want to die. Oh God, please let me die,’” Felicia later recalled.

The family’s dog was put down following the attack. The children’s parents have said they are heartbroken and filled with guilt over what happened, but are eternally grateful to Felicia for saving their daughter’s life. “That is the most selfless person,” one family member said.

Felicia’s incredible story spread quickly, touching people across the country. Many took to social media to praise her courage, calling her a survivor and a real-life hero for thinking of the child’s safety above her own.
Now, that widespread admiration has turned into tangible support. In a moving gesture, a group of community donors and a local nonprofit have come together to give Felicia two life-changing gifts: a brand new car and a fully furnished apartment.

The gifts are meant to help her rebuild her life as she continues to heal, both physically and emotionally. While the scars may remain, the community hopes these rewards remind Felicia that her sacrifice was seen, honored, and will never be forgotten.
