Following the productive meeting, Hon. Yakasai and his team participated in the UNGA-80 General Assembly plenary, listening to presentations and declarations made by various world leaders. Their attendance shows the administration’s commitment to ensuring that its community-focused officials are directly exposed to international policy dialogues.

The day’s agenda for the aides was packed with substantive events. They attended the ‘SDG Media Zone,’ a key side-event where discussions zeroed in on the critical challenge of ‘Financing’ for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) programs and the urgent global issue of Climate Change. This participation is vital for gaining insights into innovative funding mechanisms that could be adapted to support community-level projects back in Nigeria.

Hon. Yakasai rounded off the day’s activities by participating in various sessions at the Nigerian House in Manhattan, a hub for the country’s diaspora engagement and cultural promotion during the UNGA. Demonstrating a hands-on approach, he distributed envelopes containing brochures and detailed programs under his office’s purview to participants. A copy of these materials was also formally presented to Vice President Shettima, highlighting the tangible plans and initiatives being driven by the administration at the community level.

This series of engagements by the Community Engagement Team at UNGA-80 illustrates a strategic fusion of local governance and international diplomacy. It signals the government’s intent to ensure that global agreements and discussions on development are effectively translated into actionable and funded programs for the benefit of Nigerian communities.
