Vanguard against drugs abuse (VGADA) led by it’s National Co-ordinator Dr. Hope Abraham Omeiza on Monday, 10th September, 2018 visited the palace of His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife.
Toktok9ja gathered that the purpose of the visit was to apprise the Ooni on the rising prevalence of drug abuse in the country and the relatively high percentage of female peddlers of illicit drugs in the south western part of the country.
The co-ordinator of VGADA Dr. Hope highlighted the steps VGADA has taken to combat drug abuse through the sponsorship of Dr. Mike Omotosho.
According to him, “the steps taken, involved sensitization by engaging the social media, televisions, radio station and the dailies, secondly, policy advocacy by proposing bills to the committee on Drugs and Narcotics, House of Representatives, National Assembly, and thirdly, on Drug demand reduction by engaging secondary and tertiary institutions of learning.
The NGO also visited hotspots to educate drug users directly, and provided online platforms for direct and indirect counseling to help the drug users.
Furthermore, VGADA intends to intensify it’s efforts on the fight against drug abuse by improving on partnership with CBOs, NAFDAC, UNODC, NDLEA and other law enforcement agencies.”
The Ooni being pleased with the visit commended VGADA and expressed His interest in the organization, especially for the fact that it’s a youth centered initiative which has taken a center stage in the fight against drug abuse.
He applauded the successes recorded by the VGADA in their short period of operation while also giving his blessings and promised to offer his support and guidance.
