Abuja Expressway Tragedy: Woman Found Dead in Suspected ‘One Chance’ Attack.
A grim discovery on the busy Kubwa Expressway has sent a ripple of fear through the Federal Capital Territory. Early Thursday morning, commuters found the lifeless body of a woman lying by the roadside, a scene that has become a painful reminder of a persistent danger on Abuja’s roads: the criminal gangs known as “One Chance.”
The woman, who has not been officially identified by authorities, was found with a bag flung near her body. Among her possessions was an identity card bearing the name Princess Ochigbo. Documents in the bag suggested she may have been a staff member at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
A Facebook user, who said they were on their way to work when they made the discovery, posted images of the scene and the ID card in a plea for help. “Pls anyone who knows her family should contact the Nigeria Police Force, Dawaki Division,” the post read, urging the public to share the information widely.

While the police have launched an investigation, the immediate suspicion among witnesses and social media commentators fell squarely on “One Chance” operators. This notorious form of crime involves criminals posing as taxi or ride-share drivers. They pick up an unsuspecting passenger, only to turn on them once the vehicle is moving. Victims are robbed, often forced to transfer money from their bank accounts, and are frequently pushed out of the moving car, sometimes with fatal results.
“Her bag was flung not far from her body,” the eyewitness noted online, a detail many saw as a hallmark of such attacks, where victims’ belongings are hastily discarded. People who saw the scene were quick to dismiss other potential motives. “It was definitely the work of ‘One Chance Hoodlums’,” one commenter stated, adding, “it was not the case of rituals since no part of her body was missing.”

The killing has sparked renewed outrage and concern over security on Abuja’s roads, particularly during early morning and late-night hours when these crimes are most common. Residents are again sharing safety tips, warning against entering vehicles with unfamiliar passengers or drivers, and urging people to be extra cautious when hailing rides.
