Anambra community head living in Malaysia, Okwunwanne Mmaduka, has cried out over the spate of their ladies living in the Asian country who have been going into prostitution.
Speaking in a statement released on Thursday, he said most of the ladies are trafficked into the country and made to undergo prostitution in order to repay the money used in bringing them over.
He added that some have been rescued and sent to school in Malaysia while others have been sent back to Nigeria.
Statement below;
“We have rescued most of them and sent them back to Nigeria, while some others have been sent to school in Malaysia by us. The trend is giving us a bad name in that country. ASWAM is disturbed by the increasing cases of Anambra State women and girls in Malaysia falling victims of sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.”
ASWAM is therefore, employing community-based and state-wide campaigns to combat the menace. We are taking the campaigns to families, communities and traditional institutions here in Anambra State.
We are raising awareness among our young people, parents, government and the public on the dangers therein. All hands must be on deck in this fight,”
