Battle On: Tribunal Decides on Presidential Election Petitions, Fix Date For Hearing.

The hearing of the petitions contesting the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) designation of Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, as the winner will take place on Monday, according to the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

Ahmad El- Marzuq, the APC’s national legal adviser, indicated that the legal struggle by candidates contesting the results of the 2023 presidential election would begin on May 8. El- Marzuq claims that the APC’s legal team is prepared to defend the party’s mandate.

” We have been briefed about the hearing scheduled for next week, ” he stated. But who told you that the tribunal’s hearing on the election petitions had to be completed by May 29? Are you suggesting that the government should be left in a void and the president-elect not sworn in if they are not resolved before President Buhari leaves office? When asked how long it would take to decide on the petitions, he responded, ” It is not necessary.

‘ ‘ The Presidential election tribunal has fixed Monday, May 8th as for the hearing of the petitions challenging the victory of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, ‘ ‘ a top official of the election petitions tribunal said while speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information.

Tayo Oyetibo SAN, a member of Tinubi’s legal team claimed the hearing was supposed to start the following week.

Yes, the hearing is on Monday, but it is only for the pre-hearing session, he responded. Before the main hearing begins, the hearing is to determine if there are any applications. The hearing for the substantive matters will be scheduled.

Ahead of the 2023 Presidential Election tribunal, Nigerian activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy says he misses his father Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.

From 1984 to 1989, Justice Oputa served as a Nigerian Supreme Court judge. He was most recognized for leading the Justice Oputa Panel looked into former military juntas and violations of human rights.

In response to a supposed list of Supreme Court Justices who will preside over the tribunal for the 2023 Presidential Election, Charly Boy said he misses the time when his late father, and other contemporaries like Justice Kayode Eshi, Justice Anyagolu, and a few other judges worked at the highest court.

According to him, they were good Judges who upheld the rule of law and ensured justice is served without compromise.
