CSOs Call on President Tinubu to Inaugurate Monitoring Team for Nigeria-China Development Deal.

A group of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to officially appoint them as monitoring partners for the agreement signed between Nigeria and China.

This agreement focuses on boosting tourism and other important sectors in Nigeria. The group, which includes China Tourism Promoters, the Tourism Volunteers Network, RAPNEC, the Coalition of Road Safety NGOs of Nigeria, and Civil Society Organizations for Good Governance, wants to make sure the projects are done transparently and help the country grow.

At a press conference led by Ambassador Phil Roberts, the group shared their commitment to ensuring that Nigeria benefits fully from the deal with China. Roberts explained that the agreements will help develop tourism as well as other important areas like transportation and energy.

Roberts thanked the Chinese government for their continued support to Nigeria and Africa, especially through initiatives like the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He said these partnerships are essential for building roads, railways, and other infrastructure that will help Nigeria, particularly in the tourism sector.

“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold leadership in securing these partnerships. Under his direction, Nigeria is entering a new era of growth and development,” Roberts said. “As a team, we will continue working with the Chinese government to ensure these relationships remain strong.”

The group emphasized the need for accountability in the projects linked to the agreement. According to Roberts, development must be transparent to be effective. He urged President Tinubu to make their group the official monitors to ensure the projects in the agreement are carried out properly.

“Development without accountability is not real development,” Roberts said. “It is our job to ensure the dreams of a better Nigeria, supported by this partnership with China, come true.”
