Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry Arrive in Nigeria for Mental Health School Visit.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have arrived in Nigeria for a multi-day visit focused on mental health and education. Their first stop was Lightway Academy in Abuja, where they were greeted with cheers and street-style dancing from the children.
Meghan looked stunning in a peach dress, beaded handmade necklace, and gold jewelry, including circular earrings, a choker, and a cuff. She wore her hair in a wavy updo and had on rosy makeup. Harry kept it cool in a beige linen button-up and matching pants, accessorized with a beaded necklace similar to Meghan’s.
The couple was clearly delighted by the warm welcome and enthusiastically participated in the kids’ show. After delighting in the children’s performance and taking part in the dancing, Meghan said, “We’re so honored to be with you. We have got to acknowledge those amazing dance moves! My husband was excited to jump up!”
Harry then addressed the students, saying, “Hi everybody. If I say mental health, do you know what it means?” He explained that mental health is often stigmatized around the world, but it’s essential to prioritize it. “Every single person in this room has mental health. You have to look after yourself to be able to look after other people.”
He emphasized that mental health is just as important as physical health and encouraged the students to share their stories without shame. “The more you talk about it, the more you can kick stigma away, far away into long grass, and then everybody will have the opportunity to be able to share how they’re feeling, how they’re coping, and then you can help other people.”
Meghan added, “You see why I’m married to him? He speaks the truth.” She emphasized that mental health is just as important as physical health and encouraged the students to share their stories without shame. “We believe in you, we believe in your futures, and we believe in your ability to continue telling your stories and being honest with each other. There is no need to suffer in silence.”
The couple’s visit to Nigeria is focused on promoting mental health education and supporting local organizations dedicated to veterans’ welfare. They will also visit a military rehabilitation center and participate in other engagements aimed at raising awareness and promoting support for mental health initiatives.
As they left the stage, Meghan said, “And now we’re going to dance!” The couple’s enthusiasm and dedication to mental health awareness have made a clear impact on the students and staff at Lightway Academy, and their visit is sure to have a lasting impact on the community.
Rosa Sanchez, senior news editor at Harper’s Bazaar, noted that this visit marks an important milestone in the couple’s efforts to prioritize mental health and education. Previously, Harry has spoken about his own struggles with mental health, and Meghan has emphasized the importance of self-care and support. Their visit to Nigeria is a testament to their commitment to promoting mental health awareness and supporting communities around the world.
