After nearly three months of waiting for answers, the family of a missing woman, Comfort Uwakwe, is calling on the public for help, saying the official police investigation has left them with more questions than answers.

Ms. Uwakwe, a Lagos resident originally from Imo State, was last seen on October 25, 2025. According to her sister, she traveled that day to Epe in Lagos state to visit a male friend, Olajide Akeushola.

The visit took a worrying turn that evening. Her friend, Ifeoma, received a call from Comfort around 10:08 p.m. In what has been described as a distressed call, Comfort said she was locked in a room and in danger. The line then went dead. She has not been heard from since.

Her family reported her missing at the Makinde Police Station in Oshodi two days later. The case eventually led to the arrest of the man she went to visit, Olajide Akeushola, on November 26.

According to the police, the suspect confessed to meeting Comfort in Epe. He told officers they had drinks, she became tipsy, and he locked her in a hotel room. His story then takes a sharp turn. He claims she later had an accident on the Epe highway, where she was hit by a trailer.

Police say they were taken by the suspect to a spot along the highway where they recovered a single human leg, alleged to be the only remains found from this supposed accident—a full month after she disappeared.

It is this part of the story that has shaken the family’s trust in the investigation. Upon being shown a picture of the leg, Comfort’s family immediately insisted it did not belong to her. They say the police have now requested an autopsy and DNA test, but have asked the family to cover the cost.

This development has plunged the family into deeper distress and raised serious doubts about the direction of the case. They are now publicly asking questions they feel the police have not properly answered.

“If she was locked in a hotel room, how did she get to a highway? What do the hotel staff say? Why is there only a leg, with no other remains, found weeks later in a place like that?” a family representative asked. “If that leg is really Comfort’s, where is the rest of her? And if it is not, whose is it?”

The family and their community union are now worried that other possibilities, beyond a simple accident, are not being fully explored. They are calling for a more thorough investigation, stressing that the current account does not add up.

“We have been pushed to bring this to the public because we need real answers,” the statement from the Owalla Town Development Union read. “We need a proper investigation done for the sake of justice.”

The family is urging anyone with information about Comfort Uwakwe’s disappearance to come forward and report to the police.
