Ghana Education Service Sacks KNUST SHS Assistant Headmaster Over Atopa Video with Student.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken swift and decisive action, removing Mr. Charles Akwasi Aidoo from his position as Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST Senior High School. This move comes in direct response to a widely circulated video that allegedly shows the educator in a compromising and inappropriate situation with a female student from the school.
The video, which trended online under the label “Atopa” – a local slang term for sexually explicit content – sparked immediate public outrage. The footage, reportedly recorded on a mobile phone, shows the student in her school uniform engaged in !nt!mate contact with the teacher, who appears to be a willing participant.
In an official communique dated Monday, September 29, 2025, the GES condemned the incident in strong terms. The service confirmed that Mr. Aidoo has been immediately relieved of his duties and barred from the school premises pending a full investigation.

“The Ghana Education Service wishes to state unequivocally that it condemns the alleged misconduct involving a teacher and a student at KNUST SHS,” the release stated. It further assured the public that the matter “will be investigated with all seriousness,” emphasizing the service’s commitment to “protecting all students from such situations.”
The scandal unfolded after the low-quality video began circulating on social media platforms. While the identities and the school were initially unconfirmed, online sleuths and public scrutiny quickly pinpointed the individuals and the institution as KNUST SHS in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
The incident has ignited a fierce debate across Ghana. While many have praised the GES for its prompt action, the event has also forced a difficult conversation about the abuse of power and the vulnerability of students within the educational system. The case has brought to the forefront uncomfortable discussions about the dynamics where students, particularly females, may feel pressured into relationships with educators to secure academic favors.
