Shukr, also known as Hajj Mohsin, joined Hezbollah in 1985 and was wanted by the U.S. for his involvement in the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing that targeted U.S. Marines.
At the time of his death, Shukr was serving as a senior adviser to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. He was killed in an IDF strike on Tuesday in southern Beirut. The IDF confirmed the operation in a press release, stating that its fighter jets had “eliminated the Hezbollah terrorist organization’s most senior military commander [Shukr].”
Hezbollah has yet to confirm Shukr’s death. The strike has angered Israeli officials, leading the IDF to launch missiles at Lebanon shortly afterward, with one missile hitting an apartment building near a hospital in Beirut’s Haret Hreik neighborhood.

We don’t want to see a wider war,” the official stated. “Now this is in the hands of Hezbollah. Within 24 hours of the rocket attack in the Golan Heights, this response was being considered among other options.”
