How White Police Officer Murdered His Black Girlfriend So His Wife Wouldn’t Find Out About Their Relationship.

These days, keeping a secret is hard. Keeping a secret relationship is even harder. The hardest is keeping a cheating relationship a secret, especially when the man is trying to keep the mistress hidden from the wife.

One person that will likely understand the above statement better is a police officer known as Matthew Kinne who was arraigned for allegedly killing his black mistress because she threatened to tell his wife about their little secret affair when he tried to call it off with her.

The victim is known as Dominique Clayton but she is popularly and affectionately called Lucy. She was, until her death, a single mum of four children. All her children are under the age of 14 years living in Oxford, Mississippi.

Her four children, two boys, and two girls were her whole world. She was doing everything to fend for them as a single mother but life wasn’t easy for her especially when she was to do it alone. Money was tight and although she was devoted to looking after her family, it was tough on her own.

Around August 2018, she met Matthew Kinne whom she was dating and he was assisting her financially too in raising her children. Matthew was an officer in the Oxford Police Department and a member of the mounted patrol team in the community. He served in the department for around four years and had been named the mounted patrol officer of the year.

Kinne Mathew looked like a perfect, reliable partner for Dominique. He was caring, loving, and assisting (financially). He helped her buy a car and there was talk of him contributing to her rent and helping her get a house. They were a partnership of sorts.

Dominique wasn’t sure they would go the distance. She reportedly wanted their affair to go to the next level. However, there was one major problem– Mathew Kinne was already married with kids.

How the problem started

Dominique claimed that her married boyfriend was possessive. He was jealous of other men around her, yet he wasn’t willing to commit to her and go public with their relationship and he didn’t want to break it off with her either. The couple had to sneak around and meet up secretly for s3x.

Later Dominique became pregnant. One of Dominique’s friends said she was pregnant but she admitted she was worried about telling her already married boyfriend because she wasn’t sure how he would react to the news.

Somehow, the officer got to know about her pregnancy. He tried to end things with Dominique and, in turn, she also threatened to tell his wife that they were sleeping together. This was her undoing.

Immediately she threatened to tell his wife about them, Kinne was starting to feel as though the walls were closing in. It s only a matter of time before his wife finds out about his secret affairs with Dominique. Hence, he plans to do something about it.

How He Killed Her

There was a heavy downpour of rain on the night of 18 May 2019 and Dominique called Kinne for a lift to her car. Kinne was working on patrol in Downtown Square at the time so he stopped by to pick her up to her car as she requested.

After getting her to her car, Dominique then drove back to her home and called him on the way. She told him she was alone at home that Saturday night, as her children were spending the weekend with some of their relatives in other towns.

Meanwhile, after dropping her off where her car was parked, Kinne went back to a barn where the police horses were kept and left his mobile phone there. This was later known to be strategic so that his movements could not be traced.

He then got back in his marked patrol car and drove to Dominique’s house. He parked the vehicle around the corner.

The home was unlocked because Dominique was expecting him as she earlier told him that her children were not at home.

He collected his loaded police- issued gun– a 9mm pistol– and went to his girlfriend’ s room where she was already sleeping at around 2. 05 am and shot her dead. He shot her once in the head leaving Dominique dead, Kinne drove back to the barn to collect his phone and texted her at 2. 20 am to pretend as if nothing had happened.

When Dominique’ s four children returned from their weekend away at around 2 pm, her eight- year- old son was encouraged to enter first to play a prank on his mum. The boy brought a toy snake and wanted to lure his mother out to scare her. The poor boy discovered his mum’ s dead body instead. He had to go outside and tell his siblings that their mother was dead.

His Confession

During the investigation, police discovered that the officer had an affair with the deceased woman and that made them question him that night. He admitted the affair but denied having anything to do with Dominique’ s death. He even suggested to the investigating officer that it might be a suicide case. But the investigators did not buy the idea because there was no gun at the crime scene.

Luckily, There was security footage from Dominique’s house that showed Kinne’s patrol car arriving and leaving at the time of her death. By the next morning, Kinne was arrested for the murder of Dominique.

This time when he was questioned, he admitted he killed his mistress and gave his reasons for killing her. The news rocked the Oxford Police Department and the case exacerbated already strained race relations in the state which many people believe that Whites are killing Blacks.

It was simply a case of a white police officer killing a Black victim in cold blood and consequently attracted a lot of media attention. Kinne was however arrested and transferred to the county jail. He was fired from his job and charged with capital murder, which meant that he faced the death penalty.

The former Kinne made a plea deal. In exchange for him pleading guilty, he would avoid facing the death penalty.

Kinne’s wife has since divorced him and moved away while the case slowly made its way through the legal system.
