Idowu Christiana Murder Update: Army Arrests Suspected Kidnapper and Killer in Lagos #JusticeforChristiana.

The Nigerian Army has announced the arrest of Adeleye Ayomide, the prime suspect in the murder of Idowu Christiana, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State.

Christiana was abducted on Monday, August 19, 2024, by kidnappers along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos State. According to a family source, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N3 million but later agreed to N350,000 after negotiations. Despite receiving the money, they failed to release Christiana.

On Thursday, the spokesperson for the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Lt-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, confirmed the arrest of Ayomide by soldiers from the 174 Battalion. “We arrested him, and the 9 Brigade Nigerian Army will be handing him over to the Lagos State Police Command today,” Ayeni said.

The President of FUNAAB’s Student Union Government, Ibrahim Adeyemi, also confirmed Christiana’s death, stating, “The union can confirm that she was reportedly killed by her abductor. We will address the matter soon.”

Christiana’s tragic death has sparked an outcry, especially on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where the hashtag #JusticeForChristiana has gained over 90,000 posts.

Several users on X have pointed to Ayomide as the perpetrator. A user named Tommy tweeted, “Our friend, Christiana, a Funaabite, was abducted by Ayomide, a student of Philosophy at OOU. We demand justice.”

Another user, “Man of Letters,” claimed that Ayomide had confessed to killing and burying Christiana, providing details about how the military tracked his phone to his parents’ house in Ikorodu, where he was arrested. Damning evidence, including the victim’s blue ITEL A56 phone, was found in Ayomide’s possession.
