Iran Announces Death of Supreme Leader’s Wife Days After US-Israeli Attack.
The death toll from the recent military strikes on Iran’s leadership has risen once again. Iranian state media reported on Monday that Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the wife of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has passed away from wounds she received during the attack .
Bagherzadeh, 79, had been in a coma since the February 28 airstrikes that targeted the leadership compound in Tehran. The same operation, which U.S. officials have reportedly named “Operation Epic Fury,” also killed her husband, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei . She never regained consciousness and died on Monday, March 2.

Her death adds a deeply personal layer of loss to a week of national mourning for Iran. Authorities had previously confirmed that the strikes also killed several other close family members. Among the dead are Khamenei’s daughter, a grandson, a son-in-law, and a daughter-in-law, leaving the family “shattered” according to sources close to the situation.

Unlike her husband, who was the public face of Iran for nearly four decades, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh lived a life away from the cameras. Born in Mashhad in 1947, she married Ali Khamenei in 1964 . Throughout his 37-year rule as Supreme Leader, she rarely appeared in public and did not hold any official political role. Those who knew her described her as a private figure who focused on her family and religious duties.
In a rare interview with state media years ago, she spoke about her role not as a political figure, but as a partner. She said her main job was to keep a calm home so her husband could carry out his work, especially during the difficult years before the 1979 revolution.

The news of her passing has been met with solemn announcements on Iranian television. The country, already in a period of national mourning for the Supreme Leader, now grieves for the matriarch of the first family. As the region remains on edge following the initial strikes and subsequent retaliatory fire, Iran has declared a period of national mourning following these events
