Hamas says it wants to extend truce after latest exchange of captives with Israel.
Hamas has expressed its desire to prolong the current temporary cease-fire with Israel in the Gaza Strip. The aim is to facilitate the release of additional Palestinian prisoners, as part of negotiations related to hostages taken during its October 7 attack on Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, responding to the Hamas announcement via a posted video, indicated openness to extending the cease-fire under the condition that Hamas releases 10 hostages daily. Israel had previously stated the possibility of extending the truce for a duration of up to 10 days.
In a statement shared on the social media platform Telegram, the Islamist militant group conveyed its intention to “extend the truce after the conclusion of the four-day period,” which commenced on Friday and is scheduled to conclude on Monday.
