I’ve had $$x with over 10,000 women — Man City Star Benjamin Mendy.

Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy faces trial for allegedly raping a young woman and attempting to rape another woman, as detailed in the ongoing court proceedings at Chester Crown Court.

The accusations involve an incident in October 2020, where Mendy purportedly attacked a 24-year-old woman at his £4 million mansion in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire. Additionally, he is accused of attempting to rape a different woman, aged 29 at the time, two years prior at his residence. The footballer, currently 28 years old, denies both charges.

The trial judge, Stephen Everett, has informed the jury, consisting of six women and six men, that Mendy had previously been acquitted of sexual offenses brought forward by other women in a trial that concluded in January of the same year.

These previous charges were not addressed by the current jury. Judge Everett cautioned the jury against seeking information from the previous trial or engaging with media coverage, urging them to base their judgment solely on the evidence presented in the current trial.

During the trial’s opening, Benjamin Aina KC, the prosecutor, stated that Mendy, a footballer under contract with Manchester City FC, frequently held parties and social gatherings at his residence, known as The Spinney. These events would include both male and female guests.

The prosecution alleges that on two occasions, Mendy exploited two female attendees. One instance involved the attempted forced sex of a female guest referred to as woman A, while the other involved the rape of a female guest referred to as woman B.

According to the prosecution, Mendy initially met woman A, a UK student, in a nightclub in Barcelona towards the end of 2017, where she became involved with one of Mendy’s friends.

They maintained contact, and a year later, she arranged a visit to the accused’s friend, resulting in her stay at the footballer’s house after a night out with other girls.

The following morning, while woman A was showering in the ensuite bathroom, Mendy allegedly entered uninvited, wearing only boxer shorts and exhibiting arousal. It is claimed that Mendy forcefully grabbed the woman and attempted to rape her on the bed, despite her repeated pleas for him to stop.

The prosecution’s case further details an incident involving woman B, who, along with friends, visited a bar near Mendy’s residence in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. Afterward, they were invited to the footballer’s house.

Woman B alleges that Mendy confiscated her phone, which contained intimate photos, and directed her to his locked bedroom when she requested its return. Mendy purportedly stated, “I just wanna have a look at you,” instructing her to undress.

Woman B complied, leaving her underwear on, and Mendy then tossed her phone onto the bed. As she reached for her phone, Mendy allegedly approached her from behind and raped her, despite her explicit refusal. According to the prosecutor, at that moment, Mendy stepped back and remarked, “You’re too shy. It’s fine. I’ve had sex with 10,000 women.”

Mendy maintains that any sexual encounters in both instances were consensual and denies any wrongdoing, as relayed to the authorities. The trial continues at Chester Crown Court.
