JAMB remits ₦50 billion to FG under Prof Oloyede’s leadership
Vice President Kashim Shettima has commended the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, for remitting over ₦50 billion to the Federal Government within a year.
Shettima made the commendation on Wednesday while speaking at a public engagement organised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
The dialogue, themed “Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption”, was held at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, where the Fraud Risk Assessment Project for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) was also launched by the EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa.
Shettima said that JAMB had never made up to $1 million for the Federal Government before Oloyede assumed office in 2016.
“However, when Prof Oloyede assumed office, JAMB made over ₦50 billion for the Federal Government in one year,” he said.
The Vice President attributed the increased remittance to Oloyede’s transparency and accountability in managing the affairs of the board.
“He is a man of integrity who has shown that it is possible to fight corruption and still deliver on his mandate,” Shettima said.
Oloyede, who was also present at the event, thanked the Vice President for the commendation and pledged to continue to work hard to ensure the transparency and accountability of JAMB.
“We are committed to ensuring that JAMB’s resources are used judiciously for the benefit of all Nigerians,” he said.
The event was attended by other dignitaries, including the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III; and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Samson Ayokunle.
Oloyede’s reforms at JAMB
Professor Oloyede has been credited with a number of reforms at JAMB since he assumed office in 2016. These include:
- The introduction of the Computer Based Test (CBT) for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
- The implementation of a cashless policy for all JAMB transactions.
- The blocking of multiple registrations by candidates.
- The prosecution of fraudsters involved in examination malpractices.
These reforms have helped to improve the efficiency and transparency of JAMB’s operations, and have also generated additional revenue for the Federal Government.
