In a move to boost Nigeria’s tourism sector, the Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Lola Ade-John, has officially endorsed “Tourism Across the Niger,” a unique trekking exercise aimed at promoting tourism across various states in Nigeria. The endorsement was made following a closed-door meeting with the project’s convener, Ambassador Phil Roberts, and his team members at the Ministry in Abuja.
Ambassador Phil Roberts, the Executive Director of the Tourism Volunteers Network (TVN), has been at the forefront of initiatives designed to enhance Nigeria’s tourism appeal. His latest project, Tourism Across the Niger, is set to spotlight the rich cultural and natural heritage of the country through a trekking journey across Abuja, Kogi, and Delta State.
Minister Lola Ade-John spoke with newsmen after the meeting and expressed her enthusiastic support for the project. “I am pleased to endorse Tourism Across the Niger,” she stated. “This initiative aligns perfectly with our goals to promote domestic tourism and showcase Nigeria’s diverse attractions. I look forward to attending the project’s unveiling on Monday, 20th May 2024.”

The Minister also assured the representatives of the TVN of a Presidential reception following the successful completion of the project. She emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to collaborating with TVN to ensure the promotion and development of tourism in Nigeria. “Our Ministry will work hand in hand with TVN to not only highlight our tourist destinations but also to encourage volunteerism in the tourism sector,” she added.
Tourism Across the Niger is a meticulously planned event that will see Ambassador Phil Roberts and his team trekking through key locations in Abuja, Kogi, and Delta State. The journey aims to draw attention to the scenic beauty and cultural richness of these regions, thereby encouraging both local and international tourists to explore Nigeria. The event will be broadcast live on various channels across Africa, bringing widespread visibility to the initiative.
Accompanying Ambassador Phil Roberts at the endorsement event were several notable members of the Tourism Volunteers Network, including Dr. Mrs. Charity Akpambo, the FCT Tourism Volunteers Network Coordinator, Mr. Monday Ogedengbe, the Director for Strategy and Administration, Dr Aisha Yusuf, SSA to the Executive Director on Sustainable and Accessible Tourism, Ms Chinenye Laura, SSA to the Executive Director on Special duties, along with other dedicated members of the organization.
This endorsement marks a significant milestone for the Tourism Volunteers Network and sets the stage for a successful and impactful Tourism Across the Niger project.
