Muslim Group Calls for Arrest of Cleric Advocating for the Assassination of President Tinubu’s Wife for Being An Infidel.

A recent video leak exposing inflammatory remarks made by an Islamic cleric has sparked outrage and condemnation from the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG).

The cleric, whose identity remains undisclosed, brazenly called for the assassination of Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of President Tinubu, labeling her an “infidel” and inciting violence based on religious grounds.

The video showcased the cleric declaring, “Now, Tinubu, his wife is an infidel. As an infidel, she is a leader among the infidels. God’s judgment says she must be killed. She’s a pastor… a leader of infidels (Christians); Allah says they must be killed…”

Such dangerous rhetoric threatens Mrs. Tinubu’s safety and undermines the fabric of peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

The MMWG swiftly issued a statement denouncing the cleric’s remarks as “inflammatory, reckless, and deplorable.” The group, comprised of Muslim professionals across various sectors, emphasized the importance of upholding peace and harmony in the nation, particularly during these challenging times.

Calling for immediate action, MMWG demanded the arrest and prosecution of the cleric, labeling him as “one of the bad elements in Nigerian society” and stressing that such individuals do not represent the true teachings of Islam. The group urged security agencies to prioritize the matter and prevent further incitement of violence under the guise of religious ideology.

Furthermore, MMWG reiterated Islam’s teachings regarding coexistence with people of other faiths, citing the Quran’s recognition of Jews and Christians as “The People of the Book.” Emphasizing the principle of peaceful coexistence, the group highlighted Islam’s call for mutual respect and understanding among different religious communities.

“At this trying period of the nation, some irresponsible, incorrigible, and unpatriotic elements must not be allowed to use religion to cause chaos in Nigeria,” stated MMWG.
