Nigeria’s Security Agencies Clamp Down on Coup Planners and Protest Leaders.
The Nigerian military and other security agencies are actively searching for individuals advocating for a coup and attempting to force an undemocratic change of government.
This was revealed by General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), during a joint press briefing with security chiefs on Tuesday, August 6, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

General Musa stated that those calling for a change of government are believed to be sponsored, and the military is working to identify and apprehend these sponsors. Some sponsors, particularly those linked to rioters displaying foreign flags, have already been arrested, and their bank accounts have been frozen.
The meeting was attended by key security figures, including Lt.-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja (Chief of Army Staff), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla (Chief of Naval Staff), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar (Chief of Air Staff), the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, a representative of the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Controller-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS).

Additionally, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has placed the sponsors of the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest on its watchlist. This was announced by NIS Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap on Tuesday, following a strategic meeting called by General Musa.
In response to an order from President Bola Tinubu to crack down on these activities, the Defence Chief, along with other intelligence and para-military agency heads, held a closed-door meeting at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. After the meeting, Nandap informed journalists that sponsors located abroad would be arrested upon entering Nigeria.
