Red Alert! CBN Reacts on Shutting Down Financial Transactions Ahead of Presidential Election.
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reacted to the news circulating on social media claiming the apex Bank plans to down financial transactions in Nigeria ahead of the 2023 presidential election as fake news.
Recall for days now a circular claiming that from today Thursday, all financial transactions will be shut down to prevent any form of vote buying or election malpractice has raised concerns among Nigerians.
Many Nigerians who saw the message were worried and had to stock their houses with foodstuffs and other household necessities in anticipation of the shutdown.
The Apex Bank has now come out to debunk the claims on their verified Twitter handle tagging it “fake news”.

The circular that went viral some days back reads:
SPECIAL INFORMATION

Anyhow you can get money between today and tomorrow get and keep it, also whatever transfer you want to do, do it between today and tomorrow, information am hearing is that, as from Thursday, bank network will go off till Sunday or Monday, so that politicians will not be able to transfer money to anybody for vote, so buy enough food at home, do ur transfer now. Because the next five days will be difficult pls.

If it’s fake news then all banks must upgrade their network services since there is no availability of physical cash for now! I was debited 3times in a super market today. The 4th time I tried it went! My money hasn’t still been reversed and I’m on zero balance now!!
