“The Igbo Man Will Never Be Good Enough”: Lady Reacts as Frank Mba Forced to Exit Over New IG Appointment

“The Igbo Man Will Never Be Good Enough”: Lady Reacts as Frank Mba Forced to Exit Over New IG Appointment.

A social media user has raised concerns over the exit of a senior police officer, suggesting ethnic considerations played a role in the recent leadership change at the Nigeria Police Force.

The resignation of former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the subsequent appointment of Tunji Disu as the new IGP has sparked reactions online, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the forced exit of Frank Mba, a high-ranking officer who was next in line for the position.

According to police succession protocols, Frank Mba, who held a senior position, was expected to be considered for the top job. However, the appointment of Tunji Disu, who is reportedly his junior in the force, made it mandatory for Mba to resign from service.

A Nigerian woman took to Facebook to express her disappointment over the development. She argued that the situation points to a deeper issue of marginalisation.

“I am just learning that Frank Mba has been forced into retirement because of an undue promotion given to Tunde Disu, his junior in the force. I cannot believe this is happening because President Tinubu would rather have a Yoruba man head the Nigerian Police Force. Shame,” she wrote.

She further stated: “You can align and trumpet ‘city boy’ mandate in the south east from now till eternity; the Igbo man will never be good enough, unless we renegotiate the Nigerian union.”

Her post has since gone viral, attracting mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some agreed with her sentiments, others urged caution, saying appointments should be based on merit and not ethnicity.

President Bola Tinubu accepted the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun, who stepped down citing personal family reasons. Tunji Disu, who until his appointment was the Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, now takes over as the acting IGP.
