President Bola Tinubu is set to depart from Abuja on Thursday, August 14, for a significant two-nation visit to Japan and Brazil. According to a statement from his Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the trip is a strategic effort to strengthen Nigeria’s international partnerships and attract foreign investment.

The first leg of the journey will take the President to Yokohama, Japan, where he will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) from August 20 to 22. The conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” is a key platform for leaders to discuss Africa’s economic progress, improve business environments, and promote sustainable societies. While at TICAD9, President Tinubu will engage in high-level discussions, hold bilateral meetings with other world leaders, and meet with top executives of Japanese companies that have a presence in Nigeria.

TICAD is a triennial forum co-hosted by the Japanese government, the United Nations, and the African Union Commission, among others. It serves as a vital platform for fostering dialogue between African leaders and their development partners.

Following his visit to Japan, President Tinubu will travel to Brasília, the capital of Brazil, for a two-day state visit from August 24 to 25. The visit comes at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. During his time in Brazil, President Tinubu will hold a bilateral meeting with his counterpart and participate in a business forum to attract Brazilian investors to Nigeria.

Accompanying the President will be a delegation of key ministers and senior officials. Their goal is to explore new avenues for cooperation and formalize agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance the relationship between Nigeria and Brazil.
