Tinubu Submit Names of 32 Ambassadorial Nominees to Senate, Includes Fani-Kayode, Omokri.

President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to consider and approve thirty-two Nigerians he has nominated to serve as ambassadors of the country.

The President made the request in two letters sent to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and read during the plenary session on Tuesday.

In the letters, President Tinubu asked the Senate to give urgent attention to confirming fifteen of the nominees as Career Ambassadors, while the other seventeen are nominated as Non-Career Ambassadors.

The list of nominees includes a number of well-known political figures and former public office holders. Among the most prominent names on the Non-Career list are Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation and frequent political commentator; Reno Omokri, a social media influencer and author; and Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Other notable political figures nominated include former Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; his Abia State counterpart, Dr. Victor Okezie Ikpeazu; and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim from Ondo State. Also on the list is Fatima Florence Ajimobi, the widow of former Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi.

The list features ten women in total, with six nominated as Non-Career Ambassadors and four as Career Ambassadors.

This move is seen as part of the President’s efforts to fill crucial diplomatic positions and shape the nation’s representation abroad. The Senate is now expected to screen the nominees before giving its final approval.
