Why I Left Christianity for Islam – Asari Dokubo Opens Up.
Asari Dokubo, the former militant leader from the Ijaw ethnic group in the Niger Delta, has shared the reason behind his decision to leave Christianity and embrace Islam.
In a recent conversation, Dokubo explained that Christianity felt too gentle for his personality and did not suit the kind of person he is.
According to him, “Christianity is too peaceful and does not suit my nature. I used to be a member of the Baptist Church … in fact, I was a Sunday School teacher. At one point, I also joined the Deeper Life Bible Church. I know Pastor W. F. Kumuyi personally, and he knows me too.”

He went on to say that he found it hard to agree with some Christian teachings. Dokubo pointed to the Bible verse that tells believers to turn the other cheek when slapped.
“Christianity feels too gentle for me. As a person, I do not agree with the teachings that when someone slaps you on one cheek, you should turn the other cheek for another slap,” he said.
This teaching, he noted, did not sit well with him. He explained that Islam allows him to defend himself and respond when attacked.
“Islam provides me with the grounds to respond immediately and even more strongly,” Dokubo said.
Despite his personal choice, he made it clear that he has no problem with Christianity. He said he does not speak against the religion and has nothing bad to say about it.
“I have nothing against Christianity and you will never hear me criticise the religion. My wives and children are Christians. But as for me, I will remain a Muslim,” he added.
His statement has since stirred reactions online, with some people supporting his decision while others feel differently. But Dokubo remains firm in his choice, saying Islam fits his way of life better.
