Why Was D’Banj Arrested By ICPC? This is What We Heard
Just recently popular Nigerian singer D’Banj was arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC), and many Nigerians have been asking the big question, “Why was D’Bang Arrested by ICPC?”
According to what we heard, D’Banj whose real name is Oladapo Oyebanji was arrested and detained over fraudulently diverting large sums of money meant for the N-Power project an empowerment program set up by the Nigerian Government in 2016 to address youth unemployment and increase social development.
According to more reports, D’Banj had been summoned on many occasions by the agency but refused to turn up. He claimed to be overseas for concerts each time he was invited for questioning over the alleged fraud allegation.
D’Banj was detailed on Tuesday after ICPC operatives closed in on him, he had no option but to surrender himself to the agency’s headquarters.
It was alleged after a series of investigations that D’Banj arranged with some compromise government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the scheme.
The money paid to those ghost beneficiaries was allegedly linked to the pop star.
On arrival, D’banj was subjected to a prolonged interrogation session after which he was detained. His plea for administrative bail was rejected by officials who said the musician could not be trusted to attend his trial if released on bail.
It was also gathered that ICPC might approach the court for an extended remand order to enable the agency complete its investigation before charging the musician to court.
